The Festival des 3 Continents invites you to a screening at the Médiathèque Lisa Bresner to discover 143 SAHARA STREET by Hassen Ferhani. This poetic and immersive film tells the poignant story of Malika, the guardian of an Algerian desert. You’ll be transported into the special atmosphere of an isolated relay station in the middle of nowhere, where the poetry of everyday life and the uniqueness of encounters will win you over.

143 SAHARA STREET by Hassen FERHANI

Documentary · Algeria · 1h40 · 2019

Here, instead of a roundabout, there’s a shanty by way of a crossroads, the one where Malika, a lone woman of advanced years, serves omelettes, tins of tuna, bread, coffee and tea to travellers and backpackers who pass by, to the lorry drivers who more regularly stop off. From the end of her little table, Malika opens up her home, like a pebble to the whims of the wind, to the rumours of a distant world that conversations amplify. The portrait reveals another intersection between reality and its metaphor: that of a country on the edge of the road. Jérôme Baron

Awarded the Young Jury Prize, the Audience Prize and a Silver Montgolfière at the Festival des 3 Continents in 2019, 143 rue du désert will have been the rallying point for the winners of our 41st edition from its picturesque address.

Free admission.
The screening will be preceded by a video workshop with the Arlène association and video artist Inès Elichondoborde.
