46th EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL DES 3 CONTINENTS
AWARDS
“Yesterday, the storm blew hard over Nantes as we learned, like so many other cultural players, that the Pays de la Loire Region was abruptly breaking its moorings.
But we’re not giving in, we won’t give in, and the ever-growing numbers of spectators of all ages who have joined us on the 3 Continents have let us know.
It’s not a matter of belief, it’s a reality: the arts and culture help us to live our lives better, to think them through by sharing them. They are not incidental, secondary or subsidiary; they are simply the highest signs of our humanity. To ignore it, to regard it as marginal, is to attack society far beyond the artists themselves. And this week, in all humility, we feel we have helped to provide further proof of this.
What a remarkable coincidence that our guest of honour, the great Indian actress Shabana Azmi, daughter of a poet and a theatre actress, has herself, throughout her life, carried through her roles on screen and her commitments as a woman, the idea that cinema opens the possibility of moving the world forward.
Those who forget this will be forgotten too, and the abruptness of their contemptuous decision will have the equally immediate effect of mobilising us all: cultural professionals, artists, institutions and audiences”.
Jérôme Baron, Artistic Director of the Festival des 3 Continents
The festival’s juries and audience gave their verdict on Friday November 22nd, crowning 4 films at Stereolux, a space dedicated to musical and digital creations in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique.
The Awards evening began with an audiovisual creation by Khalil Epi AÏCHOUCHA, a film-concert exploring traditional Tunisian music in an electro-acoustic version.
THE AWARDS
Nine films took part in the International Competition at the 46th edition of the Festival des 3 Continents.
The Jury was made up of Olivier Babinet (director), Claire Diterzi (author and composer), Aymerick Pilarski (director of photography) & Cyrielle Raingou (director).
MONTGOLFIÈRE D’OR
The jury decided to award the Montgolfière d’Or to the film HANAMI by director Denise FERNANDES.
The Montgolfière d’Or is donated by the festival and the City of Nantes.
The Jury declares: “The film touched us deeply with its extreme sensitivity, moving poetry and incredible maturity. This golden balloon rewards an incredible emerging talent, and we hope that the prize will take her to even greater heights, as we are already looking forward to seeing her next films”.
MONTGOLFIÈRE D’ARGENT
The Jury decided to award Montgolfière d’Argent to the film SUPER HAPPY FOREVER by director Kohei IGARASHI.
The Montgolfière d’Argent is donated by the festival and the Conseil départemental de Loire-Atlantique.
The Jury declares: “We award a Montgolfière d’Argent filled with love and nostalgia to Kohei Igarashi’s Super Happy Forever. A melancomic jewel whose complex construction is wonderfully hidden behind a limpid appearance. A film you’d like to live in forever.”
SPECIAL MENTION
The Jury has decided to award a Special Mention to the film THE RETURN OF THE PROJECTIONIST by director Orkhan AGHAZADEH.
The Jury declares: “The film touched our hearts with its tenderness, through the complicity of its two protagonists, who stop at nothing to reach their goal – with unprecedented delicacy…”
YOUNG JURY AWARD
The young Jury, made of four young men and women aged 17 to 24 from the Nantes area.
Ruby CAVALIÉ, Joana MARTIN-ARROBAS, Amin SAHAL-MOHAMED and Gwendolyne THIO decided to award the prize to the film THE RETURN OF THE PROJECTIONIST by director Orkhan AGHAZADEH.
The Young Jury Award is sponsored by the festival and Aéroport Nantes Atlantique.
The Young Jury declares: “In a context where culture is increasingly undermined, it seemed right to defend this love for cinema. A universal, international and intergenerational love that comes to weave a bond between humans and bring them together. Among the selection, one film was able to put images and words to this feeling. It gives meaning to our love of cinema, and we wished́ to reward it tonight.”
AUDIENCE AWARD
Festival goers cast their votes for the Audience Award at the end of each screening and have collectively chosen MANAS by director Marianna BRENNAND.
The Audience Award is sponsored by the festival and Encore! Groupe Chessé endowment fund.
The festival warmly thanks its partners for their support, as well as all the volunteers and Festival goers who make this event possible.
