The Festival des 3 Continents is saddened to learn about the passing of Kriengsak Victor Silakong in Thailand. The director of the Bangkok World Film Festival, a long-time partner of the festival’s professional workshop, Produire au Sud, was a key figure in the Asian film landscape.
A member of the jury of the Jakarta, Kerala or Cinemalia international festivals, he was also executive producer of the “Tsunami Digital short film”, and has directed numerous films, musical performances and comedies, such as CIXI (2014), REYA (2012), CARMEN (2010) for his most recent achievements. He has directed several TV shows. Born in 1968, he graduated from Assumption University in Bangkok and trained in Acting and Director at Cours Florent in Paris, France.
Kriengsak Victor Silakong hosted the Produire au Sud workshop in Bangkok. Guillaume Mainguet, Executive Director of the International Co-production Training Course, recalls his passion for filmmakers: “I still hear him say, ‘World Film Festival of Bangkok is home for all cinema lovers, so welcome home!!
He was also the one who has supported the setting of the first PAS workshops in the region in 2005, 2006 and 2008 with Élise Jalladeau, PAS founder. He will then always be remembered as a historical and activist face of Produire au Sud.
