Offside, by Jafar Panahi
Fiction – Iran – 1h26 – 2006
8 May 2006: Iran is on the verge of qualifying for the football World Cup. A busload of cheering fans is on its way to the stadium. A girl disguised as a boy has discreetly slipped in among them, but she won’t be the only one to try to break the ban on women attending sporting events. As she entered the stadium, she was unmasked and handed over to the vice squad, who had to decide her fate. Locked in a makeshift pen, she was soon joined by other girls. Together, they refuse to give up and use every trick in the book to watch the match.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Léa Leboucq from the Festival des 3 Continents.
Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival 2006.
