In our modern societies, children naturally inherit from their parents. Among the Akan, on the other hand, inheritance is traditionally subject to the rules of matriarchy, and the beneficiaries of the inheritance must be found among the sister’s children, nephews or, better still, cousins.
Kwao Adjoba-Adjatio, whose script was taken from Amon d’Aby’s play “Kway Adjoba”, is the story of an inheritance that provokes a clash between custom and new law.
