A playwright tells us the stories of young boys and girls he knows well. By showing the choices they make about love and life, the storyteller gives us a glimpse of the conflicts, joys and sufferings, and hopes of the young generation in Shanghai in the 1980s, as they struggle to put China back on its feet. While praising the traditional mores of the Chinese nation, the film unfolds a realistic fresco of the young Chinese of the time.
