Two young Turks, Mehmet and Berzan, are both trying to survive in Istanbul. Mehmet is the friend of a Kurd who sells music cassettes in a cart. During an identity control one evening, Mehmet is unjustly arrested. Released from prison one week later, he finds a painted red X on his door. His flatmates force him to leave and he loses his job. With Berzan’s help, Mehmet soon finds a job and a roof over his head, but his dreams for the future now seem to be ruined.
