America America follows the odyssey of Stavros, a young Greek from Cappadocia, a region persecuted by the Turks at the end of the 19th century. On the roads of Anatolia, his daily life is rhythmed by such dreadful ups and downs that corruption become his only way of coping with life. In this initiatory and picaresque story bordering on autobiography Stavros is the figure of the tension between two cultures – that of his home country and that of his host country. Elia Kazan films the time spent travelling as a time of uprooting, as a poetry of migrant bodies coming into contact with wavering identities. CD
