Pushpa is a young woman who’s tricked and sold into prostitution after being thrown out from her husband’s house for being barren. Fortunately for her, the very first patron turns out to be a decent man in search of solace from an unhappy marital life. Both find in each other the soulmate they have been looking for. And her cup of joy overflows when young Nandu who, running away from his wicked stepmother, joins the household. (The character of Nandu draws inspiration from the Krishna legend which has it that Krishna was brought up by foster parents.) Pushpa’s maternal instincts too are fulfilled. Alas, the lamp of happiness flickers only too briefly. Pushpa is parted from both man and child who return only years later to reunite with her.
