“Around here, death sometimes warns of its coming. How? Why? No one really knows. It happens the evening before, like a certainty that descends on body and soul. No room for doubt, no room for struggle”. The vagueness of “here-ness”, as much as the haziness that seemingly links the announcement made to Satché (Saul Williams) with an identified African tradition, serves as a pretence that anchors the movement of Aujourd’hui in order to liberate it and open it up to a sovereign present. A man in his prime makes a final crossing through a world that he has to prepare to leave prematurely. Like Satché, we know that one day death will call us and that we will lose sight of the procession of the life surrounding us, in the realisation that we have been witnesses. JB
