In partnership with INA (Institut national de l’audiovisuel), excerpts from interviews with Safi Faye introduce different screening of the tribute to the filmmaker.
These interviews allow us to hear Safi Faye’s rare voice, when she presented Fad’jal in Cannes in 1979 and then in 1998 when Mossane was commercially released, at the same time Créteil’s Festival International de Films de Femmes threw a retrospective of her work. This fragmented media coverarge ultimately moulds Safi Faye’s trajectory, since she was practically invisible for twenty years. This maybe explains the touch of mistrust we perceive in her voice and the sideward glances she gives out. But what we hear most of all is a mix of humility and audaciousness, of assertiveness and restraint, this same mix that models the tone of her films. AR
