In a remote village located near an atomic plant, young Alisher listens to the stories told by bis grandfather. The old man strictly observes all the Muslim rites. Alisher goes to school and often goes to pay his respects on bis parent’s grave, telling his parents his sorrows and anxieties. After school, where the children are loosely taught by a half- drunk teacher, Alisher and his friends go fishing, fry the fish they caught, are the witnesses of several domestic fights and watch the villagers get drunk. Alisher is worried by the state of his grandfather who is losing his memory. The child often has inexplicable headaches as well. The villagers suddenly hear that the nearby lake is contaminated and that the atomic plant is really a military nuclear base. Alisher falls in love with Zhanar. Yet life in the village is now totally different and the lovers will find it hard to fully express their love.
