Since her memorable appearance in The Secret of the Grain, she has not given us a chance to take our eyes off her. The actress turned director has never lost her bearings, and even less those of Marseille where she grew up and long wanted to return to make a film, her second. Watching Nora, a cleaning woman and mother-courage who steers the helm of a troubled family as best as she can, is like watching in the present many of the filmmaker’s personal memories. With a non-professional cast, precise dialogues and vivacious, unvarnished acting, we never know if these contradictory energies support or consume Nora who would visibly like to take a short break, have her minute, her hour and, one day, her own day. Good mother Nora! And so many others. JB
