Chafika and Metwali is a storied history that takes place in the early nineteenth century, at the time of the digging of the Suez Canal. It tells the story of a brother and sister that destiny separates and that one-day reencounter for a settling of old scores. At the time, all the young peasants were taken by force from their villages and sent to Suez to dig the Channel. Metwali undergoes this same fate and during his absence, misery plunges his sister into prostitution. She is chased away from the village and finds asylum in an ill reputed house (whorehouse).
