“Colonel” Januário is running for mayor of his village. Maria Fausta, his goddaughter, is courted by Galdino, the local accordion player, but she has a relationship with João do Carmo without her father knowing it. During the electoral campaign, the young woman disappears. Galdino eventually finds her: she was with her lover. The couple returns to the village and the “Colonel” celebrates the wedding. During the party, Galdino is missing; he preferred to leave. According to the local legend, on certain days, one can hear the sad and nostalgic sound of an accordion coming from the sugar-cane field…
