Char is an ephemeral island that emerged mid-river on the frontier between India and Bangladesh following the construction of a dam on the Ganga. For several years, as the seasons pass, Sourav Sarangui observed this sand split that has given shelter to people who lost their homes. A smuggling trade (alcohol, rice, cattle…) developed giving everyone the means to survive while endlessly awaiting better days. This is the case of 14-year-old Rubel. The film sees him growing up and making plans, while the island that he and his community depend on erodes away. JB
