Pure Heart

The films traces the lives of two generations of courtesans in the Muslim city of Lucknow. Nargis dreams of bettering her condition and abandoning her profession as a dancer, but she is rejected by the tradition- bound family of her husband. She dies giving birth to a little girl, Sahibjaan. The little girl is brought up by her aunt who teaches her the art of song and dance. Later, Sahibjaan falls in love with Salim Ahmed. His very strict family finally consent to the union upon learning that Sahibjaan has noble blood.
