The Chinese Empire, in the 6th century B.C. The vice-regent Ching of Tsi attacks the neighbouring kingdom of Lu and occupies Wen Yang. When the sovereign Ting of Lu receives the news, he decides to call on the Emperor’s troops but his counsellor suggests that he solicit the support of three powerful clans. In parallel, Confucius dispenses his teachings to his disciples…

Confucius explores the evocative power of image and sound, refraining from any realistic mise en scène for this portrait of the Sage in times of war.” (A. Kerlan)
