Dancer in Izu
(Izu no Odoriko)

by Katsumi NISHIKAWA

dancerinizu_1

Based on the acclaimed novella by Nobel Prize Award-Winning author Yasunari Kawabata, this wabi-sabi style love story is gently compelling. While on a hiking trip in the Izu peninsula, an introspective student, Kawasaki, becomes enamored with a dancer in a troupe of traveling performers. While his feelings towards her change from romance to protective paternalism, he learns how to accept himself and better connect with others. Featuring spectacular photography and symbolism, it’s Nishikawa’s finest seishun eiga (youth film).
