A sick and solitary man (Lee Kang-Sheng) seeks relief from his suffering through myriad therapies: stretching exercises in nature, electropuncture and moxibustion, gua sha massage… in tandem, the film follows the daily life of another younger man, whose body is healthy and dexterous and who is hired to give him Thai massages in a Bangkok hotel room. Days is silent, devoid of subtitles, inviting the spectator to pierce the skin of things, in much the same way as Magritte’s painting “The Treachery of Images”. Tsai Ming-liang does not film a taboo, he reveals beauty with a clear-sighted simplicity and an emotion that strikes deep into our heart. AR
