After the death of the father, the Botero family is left forsaken. Ignacia, the widow mother of four children, decides to take matters into her hands to face their poverty. She places her hopes on Gabriel, her most intelligent son, thinking he is the only one capable of taking them out of their predicament. They all agree that he should finish his professional studies, even if this means they will have to make many sacrifices. And thus Ignacia decides the future of each one of her children.
