In Burkina Faso, a country confronted with poverty and archaic traditions, ancestral customs are regarded as laws. In the countryside, unexplained deaths are often attributed to “soul eaters”: women with occult and malignant powers, who are held responsible by villagers for the disappearances. They are outcast and become the scapegoats of an entire community.
