In 1979, the now-independant Republic of Kazakhstan was a part of the former Soviet Union. With three high-school dropouts, Karim, Zheka, and Valerka as main characters, the film unfolds into the youth drama taking place in the tie when the strict observation by the Communist Party regime made citizens traitors and informers, even against their families and friends. One night, under the influence of too much liquor, cigarettes and marijuana, they rob a hotel. Noticing the incident next day, Valerka’s stepfather informs the police and he is arrested. Karim and Zheka plan to take revenge against the stepfather and accidentally stab him to death whereas Valerka, going through severe questioning by police, tries to protect his friends.
