At night, the Colombian countryside undergoes a transformation and danger stalks. As Carmen, a fifty-year-old country woman, knows only too well. As a child she was enlisted by a sorceress, who promised her great powers if she mated with the devil. Carmen refused. Since then, she has been cursed – be it her husband’s brutality or painful childbirths, the looting by the paramilitary or ruin and threats of execution.
Revealing his work of collecting magical stories and popular beliefs, Nicolas Rincon Gille also portrays a people subject to the reality of constant violence.
