A collaboration initiated by composer Eiko Ishibashi with the filmmaker, for one of her concerts, in return inspired Ryūsuke Hamaguchi to make a whole film. Evil does not exist but the intertwining of the music’s melodious lines could announce heavens as much as disasters. Yet as we leave the city for a calm spot of countryside, it is hard to tell where the trivial creation of a glampsite that two envoys have come to present to the reluctant locals was leading us, if not to a social drama opposing two worlds. But the fable soon opens onto an abrupt abyss of uncertainty… JB
