The owner of a ‘cachaza’ (sugar cane brandy) factory in a Brazilian town, Orestes is a rich and powerful man, and no one dares take him on. His personality is dominated by money – he’s all-powerful in the city – and by his mother, a possessive woman who can’t help treating him like a child. Orestes occasionally has affairs with his friends’ wives. These are furtive encounters that mean nothing to him, since his only desire is to satisfy his sexual urge. However, one day he meets Fulvia, the beautiful pigeon fancier, and his life changes radically. It’s love at first sight for Orestes, but his love is only reciprocated after a long siege, during which they use their allies, the pigeons, to send each other secret messages…
