On his son’s birthday, the father of the family is turned into a chicken when a magic trick goes amiss. His wife – already in charge of household affairs – now has to keep the family afloat, while also continuing the search for her husband. A deadpan and uniquely fierce humour gradually emerges from the seedy and hopeless atmosphere of Feathers, captivating the audience and at the same time constantly challenging their intelligence. This remarkable debut feature film, which portrays a supposedly submissive female character, obstinate and resistant, creates a bridge between a scalpel-sharp evocation of a paralysed Egyptian society and the invention of an immensely fanciful and cinematographic territory, reminiscent of the mischief of a Buñuel or a Kaurismaki.
