The two economic giants, China and Japan, encircling the Philippines are represented here by mysterious mafiosi searching for an audio cassette held unknowingly by a young Filipino pop singer. A finger is then unexpectedly pointed at the domination of the Catholic Church… The film intentionally hybridises highly popular genres. However, the film is not limited to this parodic dimension but shifts, scene after scene, towards truly delirious satire, which pushes the metaphoric register to the point of absurdity. An unexpected gesture from the filmmaker, with a triple effect, comedy, a formal inventiveness and as a political tackle. FM
