Hai Nguyet is the third child in a business family who owns a Vietnamese-sauce company in Central Vietnam. Her understanding of life is influenced by her sisters and their experience at a Catholic school and by the natural wilderness of Hai Thach Sea where her family’s company is based. Hai Nguyet’s grandfather and father run the business in the Vietnamese historical context from 1960 to 1990. Her great-grandmother is the woman she respects most. After Liberation day on 30 April 1975, the family tries to escape from Vietnam on a small boat, but is forced to leave the great-grandmother behind.
