A twelve-year-old boy goes to the women’s Turkish baths with his mother in Halfaouine, a working-class district in the Medina of Tunis. His dawning puberty stirs up his anxiety of being torn between the world of men he feels attracted to and the world of women which still protects him. This story is familiar to all children around the world but it takes on a specific meaning in today’s Muslim world
