When he was young Azhdar, who wanted to save his beloved’s father, committed an offence and was sent to prison. On his release, he cannot go back to his native village because his fiancée is already married. Azhdar now lives in the city but keeps thinking about his village where his sweetest memories are. He thinks of each house, each tree. He drinks to forget about it all. He tries to explain his predicament to Samed, a young man newly arrived from his village. Azhdar gradually understands that Samed does not want to go back to the countryside. Yet he convinces his friend to do so as he thinks he cannot survive the cruel laws of urban life.
