The Aga is the sole owner of a desolate mountain village. The inhabitants are oppressed by economic and religious traditions: their lives are miserable. Hazal, a poor young girl, was engaged in exchange for a generous dowry, but her fiancé did not return after his military service. According to tradition, she is forced to marry her younger brother, Mer. Mer wants to blame Hazal for this mismatched marriage, while her mother tries witchcraft to improve their relationship. Supported by the religious authorities, the Aga opposes the construction of a road and tries to influence the villagers. Hazal meets Emin, who has become a labourer on the project, and they decide to run away together. As the new road approaches the village, the Aga feels increasingly threatened…
