An itinerant theatre company arrives in a small provincial town. The leader of the company, the actor Kihachi, is often absent as his former mistress Otsune and his own son — whom he pretends is his nephew — live in this town. Otaka, Kihachi’s new lover, learns the truth and becomes extremely jealous. She has the leader’s son seduced by one of the young actresses. As the company fails to make any money, Kihachi decides to disband it. He leaves the town without knowing where to go. Otaka joins him at the station.
