A theatre company run by Hikachi arrives in a small town. Otaka, Hikachi’s current mistress, finds out that he once had a son with one of the town’s women. Hikachi pays a visit to the young man who thought his father was dead.
Ozu directed a talking remake in colour of this film himself in 1959, Floating Weeds.
