In a private psychiatric clinic, Jannie enters in a catatonic state. His silence intimidates the other patients. After responding to treatment, he attempts to form relationships, but the inmates wreak a terrible vengeance upon him. Although never made explicit, the clinic operates as a microcosm of South Africa and the impotence of the administration to control the violence within mirrors the inevitable breakdown into violence of the outside society.
