In a small Chinese mining town, which reflects the economic and social upheaval of contemporary China,Guangsheng’s fate is at stake. He is torn between the respect he owes to his family and his own desires. On the banks of the Yellow River, a small mining town is slowly dying. Over the last few years, coal resourceshave been used up by frenzied exploitation. Only one mine is still operating. People have to migrate to the rich cities on the coast.
