The story is set in the 1920s, in a large estate in Central Chile. Julio Garcia del Castano is the only son of and the last heir to an old aristocrat family. The party thrown for his fifteenth birthday is the starting point of the film. It is a ceremony during which the family powers are transferred to the son as well as a ritual of initiation into the struggle of a social class about to lose its power in a changing world.
