Chen (played by Bi Gan’s uncle) runs a medical dispensary together with an elderly lady doctor. On learning that her former lover is dying, she asks Chen to take to him, on her behalf, some mementos of their past. Chen, already planning to leave to find his nephew Weiwei whom his brother has abandoned, thus sets off. Constructing an inspired poetic viewpoint, at the same time gentle and piercing, the film hangs by the thread of a world in which it is hard to tell if matter is the flesh of the living or a beam of mirages.
