Sawaki is a civil servant who has just lost his job and plunges into alcohol and depression. He meets Yuriko, a prostitute who has suffered another loss: the loss of her husband. One evening, they make a suicide pact. Later, Sawaki has second thoughts but Yuriko is determined to go ahead.
Sômai’s last film before his death at the age of 53 is a work full of despair and bordering on melodrama, a genre that he had always been close to. Nonetheless, the film sparkles with precious moments, conveyed here by the brilliant acting of Kyoko Koizumi and Tadanobu Asano.
