The last days ofthe Trinh Sam dynasty. Trinh Tong and Trinh Can, sons of Lord Trinh Sam, are fighting for the crown. Through their struggle, it is actually a fight between their mothers. Trinh Sam’s concubine, Dang Thi Hue, tries everything to obtain right of succession for her young and weak son, Trinh Can. In the meantime, Lady Duong wants the throne to be handed down to Trinh Song, herson, although she is falling into disfavour. Trinh Song is kept in a pagoda after being accused of filial impiety. The struggle grows fierce when Trinh Sam is on his deathbed. As Duke Huy supports her, Dang Thi Hue forces the Lord to sign his last will in favour of her own son. Trinh Tong rebels and kills the Duke and Trinh Can. Dang Thi Hue is degraded to a very low position…
