La Barra, a remote village on the Pacific coast of Colombia. Cerebro, the head of the Afro-Colombian community is in conflict with a white landowner who wants to build a tourist resort on the beach. After a long journey, Daniel, an odd man with city manners, arrives in the village. Bent on fleeing his past, he is looking for a boat to leave the country. But La Barra is suffering from an inexplicable shortage of fish and most of the men have gone out for a catch on the high seas; not a single boat is available. The immobilised traveller resigns himself to his predicament and gradually mixes with the villagers. He witnesses the villagers’ struggle as they fight against the sudden arrival of modernity.
