Masua and his cousin Ritsuko meet up at Haneda Airport. The year is 1971 and they have been alerted by telegram of the death of a member of their family, Terumichi. The telegram was sent by Terumichi himself. Masuo and Ritsuko want to travel to the island where their parents live. During the journey, Masuo recalls the key moments of the family past, all linked to ceremonies.
