Bathed in the 1960s atmosphere which preceded the advent of free trade, this film evokes the distinctive quality of life in India that was forged through half a century of socialist experience tinged by the Soviet Union. From the Sahib, an administrative director, living with his wife in a colonial type residence, to the alcoholic head clerk making great efforts to find a servant, to Santou and his wife wading in the water falling through their holed roof, a network of hierarchical relationships between humans is designed.
