The Swamp
(La Ciénaga)

February in north-west Argentina, between a scorching sun and tropical rain. In the mountains, the flooded land turns into swampland, trapping animals and breeding vermin. A few kilometres from the town of La Ciénaga is Mandragora, a country estate where red peppers are dried. Mecha, in her fifties, spends summer with her four children and an inexistent husband. Her cousin Tali also lives in La Ciénaga with her four children and husband. Two accidents bring the two families together at Mandragora where they try to survive a sizzling summer.
