Chitrarth, a poor and struggling writer, is invited by an enigmatic but mesmerising showman, Eashwar, to join his mime company. His educated and refined sensibilities are both repelled and fascinated by the primal world that opens up in front of him. The dark inner world of Eashwar Mime Company is made of the stuff of nightmares. It is a stark and unforgiving one, animated by beastly passions, horrors, a maniacal commitment to art, as well as a strangely arresting picture of human dignity. The brutal but charismatic despotism of the master is matched by the sinister quietness of the group of mime players. Gradually, the master’s inexplicable hold over the minds, bodies, and destinies of his employees begins to slip.
