Back from Calcutta where he graduated, Amulya spends a few days at his mother’s. She has a bride from a respectable family in store for him. Her son won’t hear about it and, to avoid getting married to that girl, mentions Mrinmoyee’s name: she is a mischievous and rebellious teenager. The mother eventually gives in. After a restless wedding night, Amulya refuses to face the new reality and goes back to Calcutta. To untangle the situation, his mother pretends to be ill so that he comes back to her.
