The story is set at El Paraiso (Paradise), a village of yesterday and today, from here and there… It starts with the poisoning of a man, a usurer nicknamed the Turk. During his slow death, no one comes to help, he is left alone to die by the villagers. Some feel remorse, others fear, most are pitiless. No one knows who killed him, but somehow everyone has something to do with his death. Everyone except for three people : Begonia Alfaro, Alma Astete and Talento Piedrahita the solicitor. They bury the man in a hole, without a tombstone, near the cemetery. The villagers are about to go on with their lives, relieved to be rid of the usurer, and to claim their possessions back, but guilt settles in, divides them and sets them against each other.
