Just before the 1921 revolution, Dolingor and his wife work as servants for Bold, a rich lord. Dolingor’s wife is expecting their second child. As they are very poor, they worry about this new mouth to feed. Seeing that they are in dire straits, Bold offers to adopt the child but the bad predictions of a lama make him renounce. Dolingor leaves to join the army. In his absence, his wife finds herself in utter destitution and their first child dies. Years later, Dolingor comes home but his family is nowhere to be found. Towards the end of his life, Dolingor, now a watchman in a school, meets a young school teacher who wears his wife’s ring…
