Set in the town of Sao José do Rio Pomba, in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais, The Queen of Radio is the story of a 50-year-old radio announcer. On her programme, which has been running for 25 years, Adelaide Fontana reads poems, presents daily news, welcomes guests and, above all, talks about Rio de Janeiro, a city she doesn’t know, but which she adores like a myth. Adelaide Fontana leads a solitary, routine life. Her only friends are the social columnist, Dodô, and Elida, a rich, independent girl who no longer lives in Sao José de Rio Pomba, but who can’t quite shake off the city. In one of the productions of her programme, the announcer meets some young men from a local film club. She falls in love with Ricardo, an 18-year-old, which leads to rumours in the small town of Sao José de Rio Pomba. A series of unexpected events will trigger a moving denouement.
