A long title for a short film, doubtless the most extraordinary film by a director who is outstandingly popular in Argentine cinema: a man, two women and a cock feature in a microscopic and tragic love story set in a village in Mendoza. Despite the dominantly austere note of the mise-en-scène and the characters’ lives, the film’s narrative precision and its ellipses are impressive: a few glimpses are enough to build, first of all, a love story, then an act of infidelity; crude housing and a communal tap supplying the district with water clearly demarcate a social class. The laconic narrative and the exquisite formal structure of the film come clearly into view during the last ten minutes, a wretched interval during which the despair of one who possesses nothing and no one materialises.
